Who we are
Edinburgh Moving is a removals company working across the city and the towns around it. We move one-bedroom flats and five-bedroom houses, shop units and offices, single pianos and whole warehouses, and we do it with our own people rather than passing the work along to somebody else.
That last part is most of the reason the company exists in the shape it does. A good deal of what comes back when you search for movers in Edinburgh is not a removals company at all. It is a broker collecting enquiries and selling them on, which is why you give your details once and then spend an evening explaining your move to three firms you never contacted, none of whom has seen your stair or has any particular reason to care about your entry date.

The people who turn up
Every move is run by one point of contact who stays with it from the first enquiry to the last box put down in the right room. You are never re-explaining your situation to somebody new, and on the day there is a person who already knows about the tight turn at the top of your stair.
The crew who arrive work for us rather than being found that morning. That matters less for the carrying, which most people can do, than for everything around it: protecting a shared stair so the neighbours stay friendly, knowing when a wardrobe has to come apart on the landing rather than be forced round a corner, and being straight with you when something will not go where you want it.
How we work
Five stages, and they are the same whether you are moving a studio flat or an office. The detail changes, the sequence does not.
You tell us what is moving
A list, a photograph, both postcodes and the floor at each end. That is enough to start. For anything larger than a small flat we will want to see it, in person or over video, because volume and access are what a real quote rests on.
We look before we price
Surveys are free and take about fifteen minutes. They exist so the number we give you is the number you pay, and so we send a crew sized to your stair rather than to our optimism.
You get a fixed written price
In writing, before anything is booked, with what is included set out plainly. If there is a way to trim the job, moving midweek instead of a Friday or packing your own non-fragile boxes, we will point it out rather than wait to be asked.
We plan the details in advance
Bay suspensions where the street needs one, lift bookings in managed buildings, dismantling, the running order for the day. Almost everything that goes wrong on moving day was fixable a fortnight earlier.
On the day, and when it slips
The crew protects the property, wraps what needs wrapping and puts things where you want them rather than inside the front door. When something slips, a late key release or a delayed settlement, you contact us directly and the plan changes.

A note on the local knowledge
Most of what makes an Edinburgh move difficult is specific to Edinburgh: the diagonal across a tenement half-landing, controlled parking zones across the centre and the inner suburbs, the Low Emission Zone in the city centre, setts and closes a van cannot sit on for long, keys that change hands around midday on settlement day, and buildings where the goods lift has to be booked days ahead. None of it is hard once it is planned for. All of it is expensive when it is discovered on the morning.
What we will not do
Worth saying out loud, because these are the four things that most often go wrong when people book a mover.
We will not quote a house move blind
For anything above a small flat, a price given without seeing the property is a guess, and guesses get corrected upwards on the day. We would rather spend fifteen minutes looking first.
We will not sell your enquiry
Your details go to us and stay with us. You will not get calls from three companies you have never heard of because you filled in one form.
We will not tell you it fits when we doubt it
If we think a sofa will not make the turn at the top of your stair, we will say so before you book rather than discover it together on the landing.
We will not take a job we cannot staff properly
If the date is not workable with a crew the right size, we will tell you that instead of accepting the booking and hoping.
